Active in endurance sports for over twenty
years, Trish is a life-long athlete who has raced
triathlons of all distances including two Ironman
triathlons (Lake Placid, ’07 & ’09), half Ironman,
XTERRA (off-road), Olympic and sprint distance
triathlons. She rowed competitively in college at
the University of Rochester in a Women's Lightweight
Eight, placing 1st at Women's Eastern Sprints, 2nd
at the US Collegiate Rowing National Championships,
and 2nd at the Dad Vail Regatta (the largest
collegiate regatta in the US) in 1989.
Trish has a Bachelors degree in Biology and
Russian Language from the University of Rochester
and a Masters degree in Russian Studies from
Georgetown University. She worked as an intelligence
analyst at the Central Intelligence Agency for five
years in the early 1990s prior to focusing her
energies on raising her four children.
Drawing on her passion for the sport and her
background in intelligence analysis, Trish provides
her athletes with detailed, periodized training
plans from a quantitative perspective. Her coaching
philosophy can essentially be expressed as "that
which is measured is managed." Through her own
personal racing experience and that gained through
coaching beginners and Kona hopefuls alike, Trish
develops highly personalized and structured programs
for her athletes based on lactate threshold field
testing with careful consideration of their
available training time and season goals. She
believes strongly in the importance of applying
appropriate intensity to each training session in
order to reduce the risk of injury while also
achieving physiological improvement, i.e. making the
hard days hard and the easy days easy.
Trish has a strong interest in functional
strength training and works with all her athletes to
develop an easy-to-follow program that focuses on
training movement patterns not muscles to improve
core strength, joint flexibility, and tendon
strength and to reduce the chance of injury. She
also will counsel her athletes on proper nutritional
guidelines that will help them maintain their
training intensity, maximize their performance, and
bring about positive changes in their body
composition.
Trish lives in Syracuse, NY and is Co-Owner of Syracuse Bicycle.
She is a Certified USA Triathlon Race Director and Level I Coach.
